Thank you all. The responses here, on Facebook, via email, and private message was amazing. In the end, there were two names that had the most requests. Jonathan was a close third.

OH-MY-GOSH!!! I wanted to cry my eyes out. Thank goodness you have cleared up enough for Elizabeth to at least try to understand some of what is going on and the danger they face. Oh, Anne and poor Colonel Richard. I wanted to scream and rail at Lady Catherine and Lord Matlock. I wanted to weep, to cry my eyes out. What a letter. Man, it ripped my heart out. I so love this Darcy and I hope Elizabeth gets all her answers quickly because they will need to work together to save this baby. The cover is amazing and his name is also amazing. Good choice. Poor Richard! But thank goodness Elizabeth now knows the true story, hopefully she will start to develop feelings for Darcy and together they can keep young James safe until his father can claim him without interference from Lord Matlock or Lady Catherine.

I love the beginning of this story; you have truly started off with a bang! Richard must trust his son to Darcy and Elizabeth, and he doesn’t know Elizabeth. Poor Elizabeth was sold to fill her father’s coffers. Will Darcy tell her the truth? How will he explain the baby to Georgina? At least now Elizabeth knows why he married her. Lord Matlock and Lady Catherine are disgusting! They see this baby as a pawn. Hopefully, Richard can claim his son when he is much older and there is nothing Lady Catherine and Lord Matlock can do. Like everyone else, I am dying to read the rest of this book.

Just having a tidy up in my Austenesque Inbox (RL has been interfering in a big way lately) and found this gem. I’m too late for the “Name The Baby” competition but the choices folk went for are pretty darned good!
How high does your Angst-O-Meter go, Joy? I think we’re looking at least an 11 here, so far! RL has had me shedding so many tears lately, I thought I didn’t have any left, but Richard’s letter proved me wrong.
Elizabeth knows why her father agreed to this marriage, despite her lack of affection. So this Mr. Bennet must be even more dilatory than normal if he agrees to “sell” his favourite daughter.
Will we be getting more? Pretty please?

Anji, thank you for taking the time to comment. Work on this has been slower than I’d hoped because of real life issues. I know you understand. But this will play out slowly and will be my most angst-ridden story I’ve ever written. There’s something about an innocent baby that brings out the best qualities in people, even Mr. Darcy. Do take care, dear lady. Your year has been rough!

Hey there — am new to anything of fanfiction, so pardon me if I break any cardinal rule (if there’s such a thing). This story sounds so very exciting! I just have a question, though: any baby that would be in the Darcy household would immediately get the attention/ suspicion of the Fitzwilliams, wouldn’t it? Especially as they know that Darcy would be the first person that Richard would think of approaching for help. So, wouldn’t the Fitzwilliams be utterly hounding Darcy and the baby then? Elizabeth cannot pass off the baby as hers as she is newly-married. Would it not make more sense to have Mrs. Milford pose as a tenant of Pemberley be the new Mrs. Darcy’s particular friend, and the newborn child a child of Mrs. Milford who will then be Mr. Darcy’s godson, therefore not carrying the Darcy name but still closely connected to him?
