What? How did this fire start? Did I miss something? I do hope you will be posting very soon. Is Darcy running to Netherfield to arrange for the Bennets to stay there? They do need a place to stay now. Proposal…I guess will have to wait. Thanks for this chapter. How many days are left?

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

Since you are so sweet, I’ll tell you, Sheila. Add Mr. Collin’s propensity to gesture with a library filled with books and carefully placed candles. It’s explained at the start of the next chapter, which I’ve already started. I’m writing quickly so I don’t leave you in suspense.

We return to the US three weeks from tomorrow. (Heartbreak!!!!!)

Well, I’m glad Richard didn’t propose, but a FIRE! Wow, that really put a cramp on Darcy’s plans and Elizabeth thinks her ran off. Too bad he forgot to say he was going for help. Well, I’m sure he’ll be back in the next chapter. Ha Ha. Too bad about Mr. Bennet. I hope you have a good solution for fixing this.

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

Yes, she does think he ran off. Of course, readers know better. As far as Mr. Bennet goes, he will not die (unless I change my mind, but I don’t think I will). However, this is a terrible wake up call.

PS I hope someone boots Collins back to Hunsford, esp since he started the fire and has no concern for anyone but his inheritance.

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

I’m thinking there’s going to be several gentlemen and a lady or two who wouldn’t mind the task.

Best chapter ever. Wonderful romance, intrigue and back and forth sparring.and ,oh what an ending to a chapter. Keep writing

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

Thank you, Mom. I am trying to be an obedient daughter.

  5. Glynis

“I have no idea who instigated the third” LOL. Loved that line!
I can’t believe Collins set fire to the house and then just stood around bemoaning the loss of his inheritance. Lucky Darcy was able to save Mr Bennet but he should have paused to kiss Elizabeth again before he dashed off 🙂
Can’t wait for more of this Joy. I’m only sorry it’s eating into your precious grandchildren time especially now it’s getting shorter.

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

Thank you, Glynis. I liked that part of the conversation as well. Oh my! I hadn’t thought about Darcy kissing Lizzy on the way by. It certainly would have affected her outlook at the end of the chapter, wouldn’t it? Hmmm! Nope. I needed her to doubt the man. Poor Darcy!

Holy Hannah!!! The flapping of Mr. Collins arms must have fanned the flames! Poor Mr. Bennet and I sure would have thrown the water bucket at Mr. Collins…several times….better yet she should have drowned him in the pond! Oh Darcy, yes bring back reinforcements! Poor Elizabeth…the trauma! Somehow I don’t think Mr. Collins will be marrying any of the Bennet girls…thank goodness!

Only three more weeks??? Where has the time gone?!

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

Mr. Collins must have thought he was at the pulpit instead of an over-crowded library. Had Mrs. Bennet had her senses about her I’m almost 100% certain she would have held him under the water until she saw bubbles. We can’t have her being tried for murder…at least not in this book.

The time has flown by. The kids head back to school after a week’s end of term vacation. It will be so hard to not have them up here until after they are finished with their homework. The teachers here are brutal. But they are both sharp as a tack. We are grateful.

This seems to be the most angst chapter as compared to the previous one. Poor Elizabeth for feeling abandoned. Hopefully, Darcy does return with help and a much needed explanation of all of his actions. (Just like Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball — got some ‘plaining to.do…)

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

I will confess that the ending almost broke my heart to write. Oh, yes. He’s definitely got some ‘plaining to do’.

  8. Anji

Just had to pick my jaw up off the floor reading the fire scene! As you would say, that came right out of left field! Oh, Mr. Collins! What a…..(searching for a suitable-for-all-audiences adjective here and failing badly!)….piece of work he is! Not sure I’d have been able to resist the bucket like Lizzy did. Darcy has gone off to make arrangements for shelter and assistance for the Bennets, hasn’t he? At least Lizzy has the knowledge, once it sinks in, that he did rescue her father from the fire, despite the risk to his own life and limb. Now, having read every chapter available over the past few hours, I’ve got to wait like everyone else for the next one.

Can’t believe you’re well over halfway through your trip now. Enjoy the precious time you have left with the family – we’ll be waiting (not very patiently, admittedly) when you get home.

For some reason, this story has taken on a life of its own. I’m working today so will see what happens next.

There are only two weeks left before we leave. It’s heartbreaking to think of it. The weather has been perfect and the grandchildren a true joy. We hope to return in August when they have their school vacation. I’ll be needing those small arms to hug me by then.

  9. jaffer2016

Wow, that fire sure was one heck of a curve ball! I loved the kisses, and Earl Matlock’s reaction, as well Richard’s drawn out teasing… wonderful chapter and story! Enjoy those grand hugs!

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

I know!!! What these characters come up with amazes me. Thanks so much for your comment jaffer 2016. I’m so tickled you stopped by.

  10. Gail M Frisby

Ok liked it how many more chapters and will it be released on kindle when finished

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

It looks like 5-6 more chapters. Absolutely, it will be on Kindle. Thanks for asking, Gail.
