Oh no that poor horse and the poor Colonel. And I was relying on him to finish off Mr Wickham! I thought Darcy had blown it for a minute but obviously not.
I thought of Mary King but didn’t want to let all your secrets out . However she will not do for Darcy. Now who could suit him? Let me think, oh I know Elizabeth!!! The Colonel knows it so hopefully he can persuade Darcy that she is his heart’s desire and will make him happy. And I’m praying that if Wickham gets to tell her his lies she won’t believe him .
They are both staying at Netherfield so there is still hope for a compromise??? (I mean between Darcy and Elizabeth by the way not Darcy and Miss Bingley )
Can’t wait to see where you go next.

Imagine the colonel’s frustration when Wickham shows up and he’s stuck in bed recovering. I think we will find out what a frustrated Richard Fitzwilliam is like. Of course, Miss King will not do for Darcy. Or the colonel. Or Wickham. Or Mr. Collins. Poor girl, it truly has nothing to do with her freckles. She’s just a minor character who is doomed in this story to stay minor.

Will Elizabeth believe Wickham? Ha Ha! You think I’m going to tell you before I write it? Nope! Will there be a compromise at Netherfield? No. Things are about to get much much worse for our dear couple.

Me too, Mary. I tell you, these characters are stubbornly insistent on getting their own way. Amazing how that works when I’m developing a story. It’s a universal problem amidst the writing community.

Love the scene with Darcy and the horse! Elizabeth is having her opinions turned on their head when it comes to Mr. Darcy! But the Colonel and the dapple grey!! If this does end his career, he may take a fancy to Miss King instead of Darcy! For I don’t think Miss King will be able to rise to the level of Miss Elizabeth in wit and impertinence. But I’m concerned for what plans you have for Wickham…

Hmmmm… So the Colonel is now injured. We know neither Caroline nor Louisa will be much help in the sickroom. Elizabeth is at Netherfield, and Jane is starting to improve. I suspect when the doctor gets there, it’ll be Elizabeth who’s taking charge rather than the hostess or her sister. THAT’ll give Darcy (and Richard, for that matter) something else to admire!

      • J "Joy" Dawn King

Debbie, yes, it might happen like that or it might not. I’ll have to think on this for a bit. OK, I’ve considered it. Unfortunately, Lizzy needs to head home as company is coming and she is desperately needed by her father. At least, it appears that way now.

Darcy the Horse Whisperer? What an amazing and brilliant idea! Reminds me a bit of a scene from one of The Lord of the Rings films, where Aragorn deals with a fractious horse. (Think it was The Two Towers and just have to add that Viggo Mortensen played Aragorn exactly as I’d envisaged from reading the books.)

Oh but Mary King will never do. Not because she has freckles – I have freckles too, so can’t see the problem with them! Just wondering how long it’ll be before the penny drops for Elizabeth. She’s starting to get an inkling, especially since the horse whispering.

Poor Richard! A compound fracture can be nasty nowadays but back then, with no antibiotics, it might not be just his job he loses. He could lose the leg or worse. Keeping my fingers crossed you’ll write him out of that scenario, Joy.

Please do not worry about the colonel too much, Anji. He will struggle but will live to torment his cousin for decades. Poor Miss Mary King. Like you and her, I have freckles too. No, even though I will be kind, she does not get either cousin in this story. At least not right now. I think!

The Return of the King was playing on our TV network just about a week ago. Haven’t seen or heard anything about Viggo in a while. What a handsome man! I love the scene when his true love peeks out at the end from behind the other elves.

Well, Mary King never entered my mind. We will have to wait to see how that offer is considered. But deep inside we know she is not “the one”. The colonel with a bone sticking through the skin – ugh…I am grimacing here. Can’t imagine how painful that is and with the medical care of that day and age – not something I want to consider for the dear man.

    Thanks for this chapter.

    • J "Joy" Dawn King

Please do not worry about our dear colonel, Sheila. He will live to cause havoc another day. You are absolutely correct about Miss King. However, please do not tell Elizabeth. She does need to worry for a bit or the book will be over in about two more chapters.
