New Story: The Letter of the Law

I’ve removed this story to prepare for publication.

Hello! I hope you have been healthy and happy during my absence. My newly replaced hip is doing remarkably well so I am FINALLY able to sit in a chair long enough to get some words down on paper. I’ve been so anxious to get back to writing something new. I will be entirely honest, there are multiple stories begging to be written. I chose “The Letter of the Law” to write first. Here’s a basic description:

Upon his father’s death, Fitzwilliam Darcy had been overwhelmed with the responsibility of becoming Master of Pemberley and guardian to his young sister. Thinking he had plenty of time before his ten-year-old sister turned sixteen, he pushed to the background the codicil in his father’s will that either he or his co-guardian, Colonel Richard Fitzwilliam, be wed by the time Miss Georgiana Darcy started preparations for her debut into society. Now, the date loomed in front of the two gentlemen like an ax ready to fall. Rather than lose her care to his cantankerous aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, Darcy decides to accept an invitation to help his friend manage his new estate close to the farm community of Meryton in Hertfordshire in hopes of finding a country-bred lady to become the Mistress of his heart.

Elizabeth Bennet was not impressed with the gentleman. His stoic demeanor and harsh criticisms of herself and her loved ones set him as the most despised man of her acquaintance. When he continues to seek her out, she wonders at his purpose. Will they ever be able to move past their rocky start? Can love grow from such horrible beginnings? Will they both end up desiring to follow the letter of the law?

Compromised! is FREE

I’m literally squealing with delight. I was selected for another BookBub deal where one of my books, Compromised!, will be FREE for the next five days on all Amazon markets. The first 90 minutes after it was announced there had already been 8,517 copies downloaded. The super cool thing about this is the ability to get the audiobook (read by Stevie Zimmerman) for a hugely reduced price. At least they allowed it in the past. I’m hoping Amazon/Audible still offers this service.

New Christie Capps Release!

I am very pleased to announce the release of my modern Pride & Prejudice Novella entitled, “The Perfect Present”. I adore this story and hope you do as well. Reviewers online left the following comments:

“I absolutely loved this story. Easily 5-star worthy. Sweet, romantic, and excessively funny.”

“I needed a good laugh and there is nothing better than a sweet, funny Darcy.”

“A delightful story. I loved it.”

This is written in the style of “Mr. Darcy’s Bad Day” although it is set in the fictitious town of Meryton, somewhere in the USA.

This story is also available at all other retail markets in eBook format and will be released in print within the next week or so. Audio production has also started with an expected release date the end of September.

Wow! Such Terrific Company I’m Keeping

Thank you, Cat Gardiner, for posting this on Facebook this morning. It was a lovely surprise to wake up to.

Independent Publisher, a stellar website for self-publishers and small presses, posted a list of what they deem “some of the best indie Pride and Prejudice books the IP staff has seen in the past several years“. Along with Cat’s book, Villa FortunaTWO of my books made the list (The Abominable Mr. Darcy & Mr. Darcy’s Mail-Order Bride). I’m gobsmacked!

Crazy World of Publishing!

I have great news and some not-so-great news. First, my latest J Dawn King story, Friends and Enemies, is available for pre-order and will release this coming Monday, June 5th. Yay! The print book is in the review stage and should be available by this weekend.  Here is the link if you want to check it out: Friends and Enemies

Now, for the not-so-good news. Jennifer Joy and I had the month of June filled with scheduled writing/publishing/release dates. However, I finished before she did. Therefore, instead of her releasing the final book in her Meryton Mystery series at the first of June and me releasing Friends and Enemies at the end, we swapped. Jennifer’s story should be launched prior to the end of June. Sigh! I was so looking forward to seeing how Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth reached their happily-ever-after, who gets murdered, and who dun it. Drat! Now, like everyone else, I have to wait.

I hate waiting. So, even though my latest is at Amazon, I’m still waiting for the file review of the print edition. Then I need to wait until my proof can be reviewed. Then I need to wait for it to publish. I’m still waiting for the audio file review of For Pemberley, my latest Christie Capps audiobook and then I will need to wait another two weeks for it to be available in the marketplaces. And, as mentioned, I’m waiting for Jennifer to finish the last few chapters, then I wait for editing and proofreading, and then for the formatting and publishing. (Deep sigh, again!) Wait! Wait! Wait!

Do you hate to wait?

Finished! “Friends & Enemies” is done. Yay!

The first draft of ‘Friends & Enemies’ is done and posted online at BeyondAusten.com and fanfiction.net. I will be leaving them up until May 10th so read fast or you won’t be able to finish while it’s free.

The reviews so far have been excellent. There are over 1,000 comments on the fanfiction.net site for this story. Incredible! Even I cried when I wrote the Epilogue. Oh, my! This Darcy is quite the man.

So, please do not forget the timeline – May 10th is the day it disappears until it goes up on Amazon in the summer. The editing process has already started and the cover, which I revealed in an earlier post, but will share again, is ready.  I’m very excited for this one to be in my hands and on my shelf.

Guess Who Has a New Book?

My daughter, Jennifer Joy, is sneaky. However, she is not nearly as sneaky as her mother. Each time she releases a new book, she tries to keep it from me so I don’t announce it before she does. Ha!!! Wait until her daughter publishes her own book. She will totally understand my motivation.

Here goes! Jennifer has a new book!!! Yep! The mystery element is excellent, but this Darcy? Oh, my word. When did that girl learn to write such a romantic leading man?

This is a follow-up to her Meryton Mystery #1 where Wickham was murdered. This time? Boy, was I surprised.

Here’s the blurb:

Two determined women. One murder. No eyewitnesses.

Lady Catherine has come to Meryton.

When a devastating secret is revealed, putting Elizabeth Bennet’s future happiness and the loyalty of the man she loves in the balance, her hopes for a Happily-Ever-After are dashed to pieces. Threats are made and family obligations are enforced, leading to an event no one could foresee. Another murder in Meryton.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is more determined than ever to win Elizabeth’s love — no matter what obstacles their families place between them. When a matron is found murdered in the midst of a militia parade, he soon discovers the strength of the woman’s enemies … and their closeness to Elizabeth. Can Darcy protect her when she is determined to bring the murderer to justice?

With a killer on the loose and their hearts on the line, can Darcy and Elizabeth work together to solve another mystery while fighting for each other? Or will the pressure break them apart forever?

Bestselling author, Jennifer Joy, brings you The Indomitable Miss Elizabeth, the second standalone novel in the A Meryton Mystery romance series. If you like falling in love with characters as they fall for each other while uncovering shocking secrets, then you’ll love this mystery romance.

Read The Indomitable Miss Elizabeth today to satisfy your craving for a fast-paced mystery interwoven with a heartwarming, sweet romance!

Oh, drat!!! She beat me to it. Sigh!!! That’s one out of ten. My success rate isn’t so bad.
